Our Origin Story
The idea for Ramadan Lights began with seeing similar displays in cities abroad, places where Ramadan was visibly celebrated in public spaces.

Inspired by that sense of recognition, a group of youth in Toronto led by Laila Soliman came together with a simple question:
Why not here?

What started as a small, community-funded idea became the first public Ramadan sign installation in Canada. Since then, the vision has grown beyond one city.

Today, Ramadan Lights Canada is working to expand this initiative across the country, one city, one community, and one sign at a time.
“We wanted to create something that felt joyful, visible, and rooted in community, something that people could gather around.” - Laila
